Fabric Guide

Knowing the fabric is important for choosing the right outfit. We have compiled a list of fabrics we use at Merocelli, along with their features and usage recommendations.


Cotton

Production: Obtained from fibers surrounding the seeds of the cotton plant. It is a natural fiber.

Features:

  • Soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic.
  • Good for the skin due to its sweat-absorbing property.
  • Durable and long-lasting.
  • Easy to wash, practical to care for.

Most suitable season: Spring and summer. Thin woven cotton keeps you cool.

Suitable for which body type: Suitable for all body types. Straight-cut cotton products flatter all silhouettes.


Viscose

Production: A cellulose-based semi-synthetic fabric. Cellulose obtained from natural sources like wood pulp or bamboo is converted into viscose fiber through chemical processes.

Features:

  • Silky soft and lightweight.
  • Breathable, sweat-absorbent.
  • Beautiful drape, gracefully fits the body.
  • Has a natural sheen.

Most suitable season: Spring and summer. Ideal for warm weather due to its cooling properties.

Suitable for which body type: Suitable for all body types due to its draping structure. Provides an elegant look, especially in dresses and blouses.


Linen

Production: A natural fiber obtained from the stem of the flax plant. It is one of the oldest textile fibers in the world.

Features:

  • Keeps you cool, has high moisture absorption capacity.
  • Breathable and has antibacterial properties.
  • Softens over time and gains a more beautiful appearance.
  • Prone to wrinkling, which creates its unique natural look.

Most suitable season: Summer. Performs best in hot weather.

Suitable for which body type: Its straight and comfortable cuts are suitable for all body types. Wide and loose cuts look chic on rectangular and apple body types.


Chiffon

Production: A thin and light woven fabric produced from silk, polyester, or nylon yarns.

Features:

  • Extremely light and transparent.
  • Has an elegant drape.
  • Feels fresh with its air-permeable structure.
  • Usually used with a lining.

Most suitable season: Spring and summer. Also ideal for special occasions and evening events.

Suitable for which body type: Its thin and flowing structure suits pear and hourglass body types very well. Layered use adds volume to rectangular body types.


Polyester

Production: A synthetic fiber produced from petroleum-derived chemicals.

Features:

  • Durable and long-lasting.
  • Resistant to wrinkling.
  • Keeps colors vibrant, resistant to fading.
  • Low moisture absorption, but modern polyesters are produced with breathable properties.

Most suitable season: Four seasons. Varies according to thickness and weave.

Suitable for which body type: Suitable for all body types. Structured polyester products help to streamline the silhouette.


Acrylic

Production: Obtained by spinning a synthetic polymer derived from petroleum called acrylonitrile.

Features:

  • Wool-like softness and lightweight.
  • Good heat insulation, keeps you warm.
  • More affordable than wool and does not cause allergic reactions.
  • Easy to care for.

Most suitable season: Autumn and winter. Especially used in knitwear and sweaters.

Suitable for which body type: Suitable for all body types in loose and comfortable cuts. Slim-fit cuts look better on hourglass and pear body types.


Elastane / Lycra

Production: A polyurethane-based synthetic fiber. Usually not used alone, but mixed with other fabrics in a ratio of 5–20%.

Features:

  • Provides high elasticity, allowing freedom of movement.
  • Helps the fabric maintain its shape.
  • Fits the body and feels comfortable.
  • Durable, retains its elasticity for a long time.

Most suitable season: Four seasons. Used in every category from sportswear to daily wear.

Suitable for which body type: Its form-fitting structure suits hourglass body types very well. Products with a high elastane content adapt to all body types.


Satin

Production: Produced from silk, polyester, or nylon yarns using a special weaving technique. The shiny surface results from this weaving technique.

Features:

  • Has a high sheen, giving a luxurious appearance.
  • Soft and draped.
  • Feels cool, gentle on the skin.
  • Ideal for special occasions and evening events.

Most suitable season: Spring, summer, and special evenings. Its velvety appearance also makes it suitable for winter events.

Suitable for which body type: Its draped structure suits hourglass and pear body types very well. Long cuts provide a slender, elongated look.


Tips for Fabric Selection

  • For warm weather: Choose cotton, linen, and viscose. Their breathable structure keeps you cool.
  • For cold weather: Choose acrylic and thick polyester blends.
  • For special occasions: Chiffon and satin provide an elegant and chic look.
  • For active days: Elastane blend fabrics allow freedom of movement.
  • For sensitive skin: Choose natural fibers such as cotton and linen.
